View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 22nd, the National Assembly decided in the plenary session to change the name of the Special Committee on Judicial Reform to the Special Committee on Criminal Justice System Reform and to extend its activity period. It also decided to form the Special Committee on Political Reform and the Special Committee on Pension Reform.
Along with the name change, the Special Committee on Judicial Reform changed its membership to a total of 12 members, with 6 from the Democratic Party and 6 from the People Power Party. The activity period was extended until January 31, 2023. The motion passed with 190 votes in favor, 5 against, and 3 abstentions out of 198 members present.
The Special Committee on Political Reform will also be launched. The Political Reform Special Committee will address issues such as ▲ reviewing the abolition of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee’s authority to examine system and wording ▲ revising regulations for the election of the second half Speaker of the National Assembly ▲ strengthening budget and settlement review institutions ▲ adjusting the authority and number of standing committee allocations ▲ supplementing the conflict of interest prevention system for lawmakers ▲ improving the method of electing superintendents of education ▲ improving the mixed-member proportional representation system ▲ reviving local party branches (district parties) ▲ and reviewing regulations on election campaigning, including improvements to the Public Official Election Act. The activity period is until April 30 of next year.

The Special Committee on Pension Reform will be composed of 13 members (6 from the Democratic Party, 6 from the People Power Party, and 1 from non-negotiating parties), with the chairperson from the People Power Party. It plans to discuss reform measures for the four major public pensions and the basic pension. The activity period is also until April 30 of next year.
