View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 22nd, the Democratic Party of Korea decided to prohibit candidates for party leader and supreme council member running in the August 28 party convention from promoting themselves in connection with other candidates during election campaigns.
Shin Hyun-young, the party spokesperson, said in a press briefing after the emergency committee meeting that morning, "Messages indicating that certain candidates are connected with others are not allowed during the election campaign," adding, "If violations occur, measures will be taken according to the party election commission's standards."
Regarding the specific criteria for 'connection,' Spokesperson Shin said, "It is still difficult to provide concrete cases or examples," but added, "It means prohibiting the indication of such connections in election materials or promotional items."
She continued, "The intention is to prevent party members or the public from recognizing that certain candidates are connected," and said, "The scope and specific details will be further discussed by the election commission."

When asked by reporters whether declaring unification among candidates would also be considered a violation, Spokesperson Shin replied, "It would not be possible to prohibit candidates from unifying through an official process."
