Metacraft Invests 10 Billion KRW in Business Utilizing Nobelpia IP
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] Metacraft Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Top Media, announced on the 22nd that it will make an investment of 10 billion KRW in the second half of this year for its OSMU (One Source Multi-Use) business utilizing the web novel intellectual property (IP) of its web novel platform Novelpia.
Novelpia continues to maintain growth even as subscription-based platforms slow down with the disappearance of non-face-to-face benefits. This year, to actively expand the OSMU business as a new field, it has been unveiling webtoon and game projects utilizing its novel IP.
To this end, it has signed webtoon adaptation contracts for a total of 44 web novels and is making every effort to secure high-quality works by collaborating with specialized webtoon studios such as Studio Onepick and Idea Concert, providing services on TopToon.
Additionally, it is investing in discovering new writers and securing IP through continuous contests, and recently established the Noveltoon Award in the Masterpiece Adult Contest, offering winners opportunities for both novel serialization and webtoon production.
In particular, it is showing active moves in the game sector as well. Following 'Project S.O.N' earlier this year, it announced 'Project WAKU' last month, jointly developed with Onfire Games, a specialist developer of bishoujo dating simulation games, raising expectations among both novel and game users through joint development with professional game developers.
Furthermore, a TTS (Text-to-Speech) service that allows users to experience novels auditorily without looking at the screen is scheduled to be introduced in the second half of the year, aiming to provide a more immersive and convenient service.
Through the TTS service, users will be able to listen to web novels without disturbance from others while commuting on public transportation, enabling comfortable access to web novels anytime.
Currently, Metacraft plans to start its Japanese web novel platform service within the third quarter based on Novelpia Japan, a Japanese corporation established in June, alongside expanding its domestic OSMU business. It also expects synergy in the webtoon adaptation business in Japan through collaboration with TopCo and Top Media.
Next year, it plans to introduce OSMU content utilizing novel IP to the Japanese market and will continue to discover various creative works embodying the capabilities and technology of domestic writers and proceed with business linkages.
