BBQ Surpasses 140 Million KRW in Support Funds for Vulnerable Groups in Africa in the First Half of the Year

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Genesis BBQ Group announced on the 22nd that it has donated 140 million KRW during the first half of this year through the participatory social contribution activity (CSR) 'I Love Africa,' which involves both the headquarters and its family (franchise stores).
Since September 2018, BBQ has partnered with I Love Africa, an international relief NGO specializing in Africa, providing practical assistance to improve the living conditions of local residents in African regions through funds for water development and emergency food aid. In a matching fund format, the headquarters and family accumulate 10 KRW per chicken ordered by customers, with the total accumulated amount reaching approximately 1.73 billion KRW to date.
In the first half of this year, various support activities were carried out mainly in the Nairobi area of Kenya using the funds raised together with the family. Wells were developed to supply drinking water in the Kajiado County area, and water tanks were installed in the Matare Slum area to create an environment where children and residents can drink clean water.
In addition to water supply, BBQ provided emergency food aid and child and women welfare projects in the slums of Nairobi. Emergency food aid was provided to 200 impoverished households in the Kibera and Athi River slums, and a Jigger (sand flea) eradication volunteer activity was conducted for 100 children at Kilere Primary School.

As part of the education support project, tuition fees for 21 orphans from impoverished households in the Kibera slum were supported for the year 2022, and sewing machines and technical training were sponsored to promote economic activities and social independence for women in the Shaurimoyo area. Additionally, soccer balls and soccer team uniform sets were provided so that youths in the Matare slum could play freely.
