Gwangju Chamber of Commerce Holds Economic Advisory Committee Meeting
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on the 21st that it held an Economic Advisory Committee meeting in the company conference room.
This meeting was organized to share recent business performance of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry and discuss ways to improve local issues and corporate difficulties, with 15 attendees including Economic Advisory Committee members led by Chairman Lawyer Song Gi-seok and executives and employees of the Chamber.
Chairman Jeong Chang-seon, in his greeting, stated, “Due to innovative technological developments, the boundaries between industries and countries are collapsing, and companies must continue infinite competition in a unified global market,” requesting active activities and cooperation from the Economic Advisory Committee to resolve management difficulties of companies and promote growth and development of the local economy.
In response, Chairman Song Gi-seok said, “Even in difficult circumstances, I will deeply consider and cooperate to contribute, even a little, to companies as the main agents of the economy steadily growing and contributing to the local economy, as well as playing a leading role as members of society.”
In the subsequent meeting, the business performance of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry was shared, including attracting complex shopping malls in the region, developing tourism resources around the Yeongsan River, and proposals to improve the business succession deduction system, along with discussions on ways to expand the enrollment of semiconductor-related departments at local universities.
Additionally, discussions were held on fostering and spreading a new entrepreneurial spirit to fulfill enhanced social roles and responsibilities required of companies, such as responding to climate change and supporting socially vulnerable groups.
In particular, to support companies’ ESG management and strengthening technological competitiveness, it was decided to expand the Economic Advisory Committee by newly appointing experts in related fields as advisory members.

A representative of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, “Due to worsening domestic and international conditions such as prices, interest rates, exchange rates, and regulations, companies are fighting a tough battle every day,” adding, “Through revitalizing the Economic Advisory Committee, we will discover improvement tasks for various regulations to support corporate management activities and seek policy alternatives so that our local economy can grow and develop even under difficult economic conditions.”
