Gyeongnam Province secured the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ ‘Smart Farm Innovation Valley Project’ in March 2019 to establish a foundation for the spread of smart farms.
The Smart Farm Innovation Valley, scheduled for completion in August, will integrate information and communication technology (ICT) throughout the entire process from production to processing and distribution of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products, serving as a hub to revitalize the agricultural ecosystem and lead future smart agriculture in Gyeongnam.
Governor Park received a report on the progress of the project and preparations for the operation of key facilities at the Innovation Valley, and toured the smart farm youth training greenhouse where melons and lettuce are being cultivated.
He remotely controlled the greenhouse environment using a tablet PC and checked the operation status of the facilities together.
Governor Park said, “Smart agriculture will drive the growth of our agriculture and rural areas and become a driving force for regional development,” adding, “Gyeongnam Province will continue to strengthen competitiveness in the agricultural sector through the establishment of the Smart Farm Innovation Valley and consistently provide interest and support so that young farmers can enter the agricultural field with confidence.”
On the same day, Governor Park met with Park Ilho, Mayor of Miryang, Yesangwon, a provincial assembly member, and Jeong Jeonggyu, Chairman of the Miryang City Council, to discuss local issues.
Together with them, he held a luncheon meeting with Park Sangmun, President of the Korea Rural Leaders Gyeongnam Federation, Min Kyunggap, Chairman of the Miryang Sports Council, Baek Jeonghwa, Chairwoman of the Miryang Women’s Association Council, and Lee Sugoo, Chairman of the Miryang Residents’ Autonomy Federation.
