Namwon-si Selected for 'Themed Public Design Contest Project'

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Modern sensibility public design will be introduced to the Namwon Yechon Yeruwon area in Jeonbuk.

Namwon City announced on the 21st that it was selected for the '2022 Themed Public Design Contest Project' hosted by Jeollabuk-do and secured a project budget of 500 million KRW.

Since last year, a renewal plan for Yeruwon reflecting differentiated designs targeting the MZ generation was established, and as a result of Namwon City's strong commitment, it achieved the highest score and excellent results.

The themed public design project is a project that enhances the quality of spaces by applying public design techniques utilizing regional history, culture, and tourism elements.

The Namwon Yechon Yeruwon area, the target site of this contest project, is a static space with strong traditional image elements along with the nearby Gwanghallu Garden, and it was a place that needed improvement as a unique space reflecting travel trends enjoyed through SNS.

Accordingly, the city proposed an emotional space design that makes people want to stay longer.

First, it plans to show a design that reinterprets the Hwage (landscaping with terraces planted with flowers on each level), an important element composing the traditional garden.

This Hwage serves as a welcoming space connecting the traditional Hanok of Yeruwon and the yard, and further linking Yeruwon and visitors.

Also, to avoid damaging the traditional image, instead of new facilities, night landscape lighting will be used to create a space of light.

The landscape with gentle wave-shaped curves emitting soft light is expected to add a special touch to the night scenery of Yeruwon, transformed into a garden of light.

The project plans to complete design planning and Jeonbuk public design review by October and complete construction by March next year.

Choi Kyung-sik, mayor of Namwon, said, "Taking this contest project as an opportunity, we expect Namwon Yechon Yeruwon to become a new attraction visited by more citizens and tourists by applying highly attractive public design, making the space itself a motive for visits."
