Putin Hints at Restarting European Natural Gas Pipeline, "Supply Volume May Also Be Reduced"
"Fulfilling All Responsibilities Faithfully"
However, Gas Turbine Sent to the West for Repairs
Has Not Returned, Threatening to Reduce Supply
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans to restart the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, which had been shut down for maintenance, while also mentioning the possibility of further supply reductions.
On the 20th (local time), according to Bloomberg and other sources, President Putin said after a meeting with the leaders of Iran and T?rkiye (Turkey) in Tehran, "Gazprom (the Russian state-owned gas company) has always fulfilled its responsibilities and will continue to do so faithfully."
However, Putin also mentioned the possibility of reduced supply, citing delays in the return of pipeline gas turbines sent to the West for repairs.
He stated that one more gas turbine of Nord Stream 1 has broken down, explaining, "Two operational turbines transported 60 million cubic meters per day, but if one turbine does not return, the transport volume will be 30 million cubic meters." He added, "Is this Gazprom's fault?"
The Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, connecting Russia and Germany, has been undergoing a scheduled 10-day maintenance since the 11th.

Earlier, Gazprom reduced the natural gas supply through Nord Stream 1 to about 40% of the previous level last month. Gazprom explained the reduction was due to the gas pipeline turbine sent to Siemens Energy in Germany for repairs not being returned.
