Double Burden of Heatwave and High Energy Prices... Government Provides Emergency Cooling Cost Support for Vulnerable Facilities
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seonhee] The government has decided to provide temporary support for cooling and heating costs at vulnerable facilities. This emergency measure comes as the burden on various social welfare facilities has increased due to the ongoing heatwave combined with rising energy prices.
On the 20th, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that it will support a total of 3.2 billion KRW in summer electricity bills for 16,000 locations, including community child centers, care centers, and facilities for the disabled and homeless. This support will be applied temporarily only to electricity bills for July and August of this year, increasing the existing electricity bill discount rate from 30% to 80%.
For community child centers (4,310 locations) and Dahamkke Care Centers (750 locations), an additional monthly operating expense of 100,000 KRW will be provided in the second half of this year on top of the existing support funds.
