Seoul City Considers Installing Waste Incineration Plant in Gangdong-gu?...Gangdong-gu Forms Response TF
[Seoul District News] Gangdong-gu Forms TF Team to Establish Response System Against Installation of Metropolitan Resource Recovery Facility, Quickly and Efficiently Developing Opposition Arguments and Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced that it has formed a 'Metropolitan Resource Recovery Facility Response TF (Task Force) Team' to oppose the site selection for the Seoul Metropolitan Resource Recovery Facility (waste incineration plant).
Gangdong-gu is being mentioned as a candidate site for the Seoul Metropolitan Resource Recovery Facility. Accordingly, the district judged that establishing a response system capable of swift and accurate action is important and formed a TF team consisting of seven departments, including the Gangdong-gu Office Resource Circulation Division.
Previously, the district has made various efforts such as submitting opposition opinions and residents' petitions against the installation of the metropolitan resource recovery facility to Seoul City. Moving forward, Gangdong-gu plans to devote all efforts to devising countermeasures against the installation of the metropolitan resource recovery facility within the region through the Metropolitan Resource Recovery Facility Response TF Team.
Additionally, the district plans to discover and present clear grounds for opposing the site selection and proceed with analyses of air and land impacts.
Currently, Gangdong-gu operates a Food Waste Recycling Center, a Resource Circulation Center, and a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant. As a result, many nuisance and objectionable facilities exist within the region, causing numerous resident complaints.
In the future, Gangdong-gu will review measures emphasizing regional equity regarding the installation of nuisance and objectionable facilities, prepare joint response plans through policy alliances with neighboring Hanam City, and promote cooperation with the Gangdong-gu Incinerator Opposition Emergency Committee.
Furthermore, Gangdong-gu will continuously monitor the holding of the Seoul Metropolitan Resource Recovery Facility Site Selection Committee and its review results, persistently submit opposition opinions regarding the metropolitan resource recovery facility to Seoul City, and proceed with related legal reviews.
