Hannam University Selected as Mathematics College for Government-Invited International Scholarship Students
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Hannam University has been selected as a government-sponsored foreign scholarship student (GKS) university.
The university announced on the 19th that it was selected as a ‘2023~2025 Government-Sponsored Foreign Scholarship Student University’ by the Ministry of Education (National Institute for International Education), allowing it to recruit foreign scholarship students for bachelor's or master's and doctoral programs.
The government-sponsored scholarship system aims to provide opportunities for foreign students to study at domestic universities, promote international educational exchange, and foster friendly relations between countries.
This system is divided into embassy screening and university screening, and foreigners who have graduated from high school or university abroad can apply by choosing one of the two screening methods.
Hannam University was previously selected as a government-sponsored foreign scholarship student university in 2020. As of this month, there are a total of 18 foreign scholarship students studying at the university, and admission of 10 degree-seeking students for the second semester of this year has also been confirmed.
Selected government-sponsored foreign scholarship students can receive support of 11 million KRW per semester per person, covering airfare, settlement allowance, living expenses, medical insurance fees, tuition, Korean language proficiency scholarships, and return preparation funds. Hannam University will receive more than 600 million KRW from the government next year as a budget to cover this.
Recruitment for government-sponsored scholarship students is announced every September for undergraduate programs and every February for graduate programs, proceeding in stages. The final selection process takes up to about six months.
