Data Competition for University Students Scheduled for September
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Shinhan Financial Group is collaborating with Big Data Innovation Shared Universities to promote data-driven Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) cooperation for the younger generation.
Shinhan Bank, Shinhan Card, Shinhan Investment Corp., and Shinhan Life announced on the 19th that they signed a business agreement with the Big Data Innovation Shared University Project Group, led by Seoul National University, at the Shinhan Financial headquarters located in Jung-gu, Seoul, to promote big data education and talent development. The signing ceremony was attended by seven university project leaders including Kim Hong-gi, head of the Seoul National University project group, and Kim Cheol-yeon, head of Sookmyung Women's University, as well as key executives from four Shinhan Financial Group affiliates including Kim Myung-hee, Vice President of Shinhan Financial Group, and Ahn Jung-seon, Vice President of Shinhan Card.
The Big Data Innovation Shared University Project Group consists of Seoul National University, University of Seoul, Sookmyung Women's University, Gyeongsang National University, Jeonbuk National University, Handong Global University, and Gyeonggi Institute of Science and Technology. Through this agreement, participating institutions will collaborate to develop educational programs aimed at strengthening the data analysis capabilities of the younger generation and supporting their employment activities, as well as nurturing data scientists who can contribute to various fields including the financial industry.
Additionally, Shinhan Bank, Shinhan Card, Shinhan Investment Corp., and Shinhan Life will jointly develop industry-academia cooperation learning data that can be used for educational purposes in big data-related departments and will also provide data that can be used for research purposes.
Furthermore, the participating institutions plan to jointly hold data competitions targeting university students interested in data analysis, and based on these, they will discover new financial products and services for future generations. The first data competition is scheduled to be held in September and will be conducted regularly thereafter.
Kim Cheol-yeon, head of the Sookmyung Women's University project group, stated, "We expect more practical data education for university students through support for financial big data," adding, "We will strive to create successful cases of big data education activities and share and expand them not only to Big Data Innovation Shared Universities but also to other universities."

Ahn Jung-seon, Vice President of Shinhan Card, said, "This is a significant first step in expanding the excellent data capabilities possessed by Shinhan Financial Group externally and exploring ways to contribute socially to the younger generation," and added, "We will continue to carry out various activities linked to the group's ESG management practices to fulfill the responsibilities of a social enterprise."
