There are a total of 40 budget committee members participating in the provincial Office of Education's budget formulation process, of which 26 were publicly recruited and the remaining 14 were appointed or commissioned.
According to the Office of Education, from May to June, 85 residents applied for the public recruitment of budget committee members, and 26 were selected after overcoming an average competition rate of 3.26 to 1.
This year, for the first time in 11 years since the budget committee system was implemented, students as direct consumers of education were publicly recruited, and Moon Juhyun, a second-year student at Changwon Nam High School, and Lee Yunhee, a first-year student at Masan Gap High School, were selected as members.
Student Lee Yunhee said, “I was curious whether the budget formulation was being done well to ensure transparency and fairness in local financial management,” adding, “I want to resolve my questions through direct participation and properly collect and convey students' opinions.”
The provincial Office of Education held a budget committee member appointment ceremony on the morning of the 14th and conducted “expertise enhancement and Anti-Graft Act training.”
Until the 31st, residents' proposals for educational policy projects will be accepted through the resident participatory budget bulletin board on the Office of Education's website.
Any resident can submit policy projects online or offline after consulting with the budget team leader of the relevant local education support office, and the adopted projects will be reflected in the 2023 main budget.
