Find Problems and Solutions Independently! ... Busan Education Office Conducts Student Council Training and Chairperson Elections
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will hold the "2024 Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Student Council Orientation and Chairperson Election" at 2 p.m. on the 15th at the Hoyoung Hall of Pukyong National University. Eighty student council members from elementary, middle, and high schools will participate in the election.
The student council is composed of a total of 80 students, including 65 open-position student council members selected through a public recruitment in June and 15 ex officio student council members recommended by regional and school-level student representative councils.
The student council members will receive orientation education to strengthen their parliamentary activity capabilities by attending a lecture titled "Youth Political and Social Participation and the Role of Youth Councils" by Professor Kim Joo-hee of the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Pukyong National University, as well as by writing proposal documents, initiating policies, engaging in discussions, and experiencing mock council sessions.
The student council members will form the chairperson group through the election, and the chairperson group will proactively lead various student council activities such as gathering opinions from student council members and conducting regular meetings.
Lee Soo-geum, Director of Educational Innovation at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "The student council is a valuable educational space where students experience the process of discovering problems themselves and finding solutions," adding, "I hope our students realize the values of autonomy, respect, and communication and grow into democratic citizens."

The student council has been organized and operated since 2020 in accordance with the "Ordinance on the Activation of Student Autonomy and Participation of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education." Now in its third term, this year it is being integrated and operated by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, moving away from the previous method of operating by region and school level.
