Samsung Electronics announced on the 14th that the number of Find Nodes registered with the SmartThings Find Service exceeded 200 million just 1 year and 10 months after its launch. Launched in October 2020, the SmartThings Find Service is a location service that utilizes low-power Bluetooth (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology even when offline. A Find Node refers to a device registered with the SmartThings Find Service that helps the user or others locate lost Galaxy devices. Currently, the SmartThings Find Service supports location checks for about 1 million devices worldwide every day.
It also allows users to check the location of personal items such as keys or wallets attached with Galaxy SmartTags or SmartTag+ devices. The SmartThings Find Service can detect the location of devices within a maximum range of 120 meters in an unobstructed environment.
If a lost device moves out of the user's smartphone range, the location can be found with the help of nearby Galaxy users registered with SmartThings Find. There is also a feature that sends an alert message when the user leaves a device behind.
SmartThings Find provides complete security by encrypting user data based on Samsung Knox, a security platform. Samsung Electronics prioritizes the safe protection of sensitive personal information such as location data. Location data used to find devices is disclosed only to the user or to others who have received prior approval from the user. To prevent hacking risks during the process of locating devices with the help of other Galaxy users, the user device's ID changes and is stored every 15 minutes. Additionally, by using the 'Find Unknown Tags Nearby' feature, unidentified SmartTags that follow a user for a certain period can be detected.
Notae-moon Noh, head of Samsung Electronics' Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, said, "Using SmartThings Find to easily locate lost devices shows that Galaxy users worldwide are having meaningful experiences through an ecosystem connected by devices."
