[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Samsung Card announced on the 14th that it has published the '2021-2022 ESG Report,' which contains its achievements and progress in terms of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects.
Samsung Card detailed its 13 key focus areas under its ESG strategy by dividing them into ▲Policies ▲Major Achievements ▲Future Plans. In particular, it systematically included Samsung Card's direction and current activities regarding important ESG issues related to its business, such as climate change response, digital financial innovation, and ESG fund procurement.
Additionally, this report disclosed Samsung Card's environmental strategies, activities, and achievements. It introduced efforts to address climate change through eco-friendly products and services, such as the eco-friendly campaign 'i DO ESG' practiced together by employees and customers, and the launch of eco-friendly card products using recycled plastic.
Furthermore, Samsung Card issued ESG bonds worth 100 billion KRW in September last year and 170 billion KRW in June this year. Following the industry's first ESG foreign currency ABS issuance in March last year, it also issued approximately 280 million euros worth of ESG ABS in February this year and 100 billion KRW worth of ESG corporate commercial paper in April, steadily continuing ESG fund procurement.
Samsung Card's ESG report was the industry's first last year to be prepared in compliance with both the international sustainability reporting standards 'GRI Standards' and the U.S. sustainability accounting standards 'SASB,' and it was prepared under the same standards this year as well.
Moreover, the company disclosed its policy direction according to the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), a climate change financial information disclosure initiative, and secured the report's credibility by completing third-party verification from the independent certification body Korea Management Certification Institute.
