View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Lotte Homeshopping announced on the 14th that it will expand its "thrifty consumption" events, such as selling products nearing expiration dates and refurbished products, in response to the ongoing inflation and the rising trend of "Jjantech," which pursues rational consumption.
Recently, with expectations that high inflation will continue, the "Jjantech" trend has been gaining momentum. Thrifty consumption, which involves purchasing relatively inexpensive products such as those nearing expiration dates, clearance, and stock items, is increasing. Products nearing expiration dates offered at Lotte Homeshopping's "Thrifty Shopping" specialty store, with prices up to 80% cheaper, saw order amounts increase by more than 20% compared to the same month last year. Accordingly, the company plans to expand events such as the thrifty shopping specialty store and refurbished product sales to propose rational consumption to customers in this era of high inflation.
On the online shopping mall "Lotte iMall," more than 100 products nearing expiration dates are selected every month and offered at discounts of up to 80% in the "Thrifty Shopping" event. Various products are showcased, including essential daily necessities such as Hetbahn (instant rice), ramen, and kimchi, as well as processed foods, health foods, and fresh foods. Same-day direct delivery is also provided for certain products. Convenient meals nearing expiration dates, such as "Kim Naun The Kitchen Cheonggukjang," and capsule and stick coffees from famous coffee shops like "Tom N Toms" and "Ediya," targeting home cafe demand, are offered with reasonable benefits.
On the mobile application (app), a "Food One Day" event is held every Thursday, offering up to 15% reward points when purchasing food products. Seasonal fruits such as "Gyeongbuk Yeongcheon Shinbi Peach," harvested in mid-June and distributed for four weeks, as well as watermelon, oriental melon, fresh foods like meat and seafood, and processed foods are selected and offered with various benefits such as reward points and additional gifts. The "Refurbished Store," which sells scratch and used products, offers a wide range of refurbished products including furniture, home appliances, baby and children’s items, as well as used luxury goods. From collections of refurbished laptops to home training equipment, and in preparation for the peak summer vacation season, scratch and refurbished carriers from famous brands such as "Camiliant," "Wheelpack," and "Rollykid" are gathered and sold at prices discounted up to 70%.
