Son Kyung-sik, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation, Meets Hong Kong Trade Delegation: "Economic Cooperation Must Be Strengthened Through RCEP"
Discussion on Korea-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Plans
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Sohn Kyung-shik, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation (KEF), met with the Hong Kong trade delegation and discussed ways to enhance Korea-Hong Kong economic cooperation.
According to KEF, the meeting held on the 14th at CJ The Center was attended by Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Sunny Chai, Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI); Carlson Tong, Non-executive Director of Hong Kong Airport Authority; Raymond Lee, Chairman of Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing; Andrew Yao, Chairman of Hong Kong Shanghai Alliance Holdings; and Nicholas Ho, member of the Hong Kong Trade and Industry Advisory Board, among other political and business figures from Hong Kong. The meeting was arranged at the request of the Hong Kong trade delegation.
Chairman Sohn stated, "Hong Kong is Korea's fourth-largest export market and one of its major trading partners," adding, "The two countries closely cooperate in logistics, finance, IT, intellectual property rights, and other sectors, and we hope that economic cooperation will be further strengthened through the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which Hong Kong applied to join this year."
He emphasized that many Korean companies have established a presence in Hong Kong and requested attention and support for Korean companies contributing to job creation and regional economic development locally.
During the meeting, KEF and FHKI agreed to promote mutual cooperation in various fields such as economy, business, trade, human resource management and development, and sustainable growth, including signing a future Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), organizing corporate support events, and conducting joint research projects.
Chairman Sohn expressed, "I hope exchanges between KEF and FHKI will serve as a foundation for expanding Korea-Hong Kong economic cooperation," and emphasized, "KEF will actively support improving the business environment and cooperation between companies of both countries."

Established in 1960, FHKI is one of Hong Kong's three major economic organizations alongside the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) and the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA), working on institutional improvements and external cooperation activities to support Hong Kong business operations.
