View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On Wednesday the 13th, rain will fall nationwide due to a low-pressure system developed from a stationary front. Heavy rain is expected mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland Gangwon, and the Chungcheong region.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) issued a heavy rain advisory at 8 a.m. for Incheon, Seoul, and Gyeonggi Province (Gwangmyeong, Paju, Uijeongbu, Yangju, Goyang, Gimpo, Bucheon, Siheung). Very heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour is expected in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland Gangwon, and the Chungcheong region until evening. The rain will expand nationwide starting from the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungnam in the morning and mostly stop by tomorrow morning.
By the morning of the 14th, more than 150 mm of heavy rain is expected to concentrate in northern Gyeonggi and northern inland Gangwon, so preparations for flood damage are necessary. The central region (excluding central and southern Gangwon and the east coast), Jeolla region, Gyeongbuk region (excluding the east coast), and the five western islands are expected to receive about 30 to 100 mm of rain, while central and southern Gangwon east coast, Gyeongbuk east coast, and Gyeongnam region will see about 10 to 60 mm of rain. On the 14th, showers of about 5 to 20 mm will fall in eastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous Gangwon, and northern Chungbuk.
The area and timing of concentrated rainfall may vary depending on the development and position of the low-pressure system formed from the stationary front. The KMA advised, "In areas prone to landslides, evacuate to safe places in advance. Since rain falling upstream in valleys or rivers can suddenly increase water levels downstream, camping should be avoided. Pay special attention to flooding in low-lying areas, river overflows, and rapid currents. There is a high possibility of collapse of construction sites, slopes, retaining walls, and embankments. Be cautious of electric shock accidents in flooded areas and engine stalls in vehicles."
In some parts of Jeollanam-do and Jeju Island where heatwave warnings have been issued, the highest perceived temperature will rise to around 33 degrees Celsius, making it very hot. Tropical nights may occur overnight in Jeolla region and Jeju Island. Although temperatures will temporarily drop due to rain, after the rain stops, temperatures will rise again from daytime, potentially expanding heatwave warnings mainly in the southern regions. The highest daytime temperature on the 13th is expected to be between 23 and 30 degrees Celsius.

From the 15th to the 17th, showers will fall mainly in inland areas. Cold air moving south from the north and surface heating by sunlight will cause temperature differences between upper and lower layers, destabilizing the atmosphere and causing showers. Some places may experience strong showers with about 20 mm per hour due to increased atmospheric instability. From Monday the 18th onward, the stationary front is expected to bring the monsoon rains. The heatwave above average temperatures is also expected to continue for the time being. From the 15th to the 22nd, the highest daytime temperatures in Seoul are forecast to be 29 to 31 degrees Celsius, and in Daegu 31 to 33 degrees Celsius.
