[Seoul District News] Dongdaemun-gu Removes 10 Unassigned Street Vendor Stalls to Improve Pedestrian and Vehicle Traffic... Gwangjin-gu Opens Junggok-dong Jungnangcheon Water Playground... Guro-gu Takes Initiative for Residents' Health Management in Post-Corona Era
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 11th that it has removed 10 unassigned street vendor stalls in the section between Cheongnyangni Station and Jegi-dong Station.
This section stretches from the Cheongnyangni Station intersection to the Jegi-dong Station intersection and had a concentration of 187 street vendors (71 licensed, 116 unlicensed). Residents passing through this area had long filed complaints about the obstruction caused by the street vendors to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Accordingly, the district prioritized the removal of 10 unassigned vendor stalls to partially alleviate the inconvenience to residents. It also stated that any unoperated stalls arising during future maintenance will be removed immediately.
Additionally, the district plans to improve the pedestrian environment by creating flower beds and planting pots around the cleared and maintained areas to prevent new street vendors from emerging.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Reflecting the voices of residents who desire change in Dongdaemun, we are conducting a comprehensive review of the street vendor licensing system and stall installation projects in the Cheongnyangni area under the slogan of the 8th elected administration: ‘Pleasantly! Safely! Transparently!’ We expect that the partial removal of street vendors will be a starting point for change.”
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) opened the ‘Junggok-dong Jungnangcheon Water Playground’ on the 12th, where residents can enjoy refreshing water play in the city.
Since its first opening in 2019, the ‘Junggok-dong Jungnangcheon Water Playground’ has reopened after three years due to COVID-19. It was established to resolve the inconvenience experienced by residents around Junggok-dong, as water playgrounds were previously concentrated at Ttukseom Resort Swimming Pool and Children’s Grand Park Water Playground, allowing Gwangjin residents to enjoy diverse play spaces anywhere in the district.
Located in the open Jungnangcheon Sports Park (485-7 Junggok-dong), it offers a natural environment even within the city. It is well-equipped with facilities such as shade tents, changing rooms, and showers, making it ideal for families to spend the summer.
The 3,277㎡ water playground features about 30 popular water play facilities for children, including a large air bounce slide, a water tunnel that sprays water, and a toddler pool where children can dip their feet and play.
It operates until August 31 and is free to use daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch time is from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and there is a 15-minute break from 45 minutes past each hour. The facility is closed every Monday and during rainy weather for maintenance and safety precautions.
To maintain clean water quality, water is supplied on the day of use only, and regular water quality tests are conducted. Safety management personnel are always on site to prevent accidents.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “The Junggok-dong Jungnangcheon Water Playground is a happy place where children can healthily and joyfully overcome the summer heat. We hope many people will use it. We will continue to develop various policies and provide generous support to make Gwangjin a great place to raise children.”
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) has launched health management initiatives for residents in the post-COVID-19 era.
On the 12th, Guro-gu announced, “We have prepared the ‘Post-COVID-19 Health Care Service’ and the ‘COVID-19 Aftereffects Relief Counseling Clinic’ to help residents restore their daily lives.”
First, the ‘Post-COVID-19 Health Care Service’ is a customized health care service that visits homes.
The service targets residents in the area who: ▲ continue to experience symptoms after COVID-19 confirmation ▲ have been discharged after hospitalization due to COVID-19 infection ▲ have chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, arthritis ▲ are frail elderly or require intensive nutritional management ▲ need medication guidance, dietary habits, and daily function management for chronic disease control.
A health care team composed of doctors, nutritionists, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, and social workers visits homes to assess health status and provides post-COVID-19 symptom counseling and information, nutrition management, rehabilitation exercises, focused management of hypertension and diabetes, and nutritional supplements via visits or phone calls. They also connect residents to social welfare or psychological support services.
The ‘COVID-19 Aftereffects Relief Counseling Clinic’ was established at the G-Valley Health Center to support residents who suffer from aftereffects following COVID-19 recovery in returning to a healthy daily life.
The clinic operates every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment only.
Doctors provide health status and symptom management consultations and conduct depression and cognitive screening tests if necessary, linking patients to community resources such as mental health centers.
For detailed inquiries and applications, contact the G-Valley Health Center team at the public health center.
