Goldberg, U.S. Ambassador, Pays Courtesy Call on Minister Park Jin
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Philip Goldberg, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Korea, will pay a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Park Jin on the afternoon of the 12th.
Choi Young-sam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at the regular briefing that "Minister Park Jin will meet with Philip Goldberg, the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Korea, this afternoon." Spokesperson Choi added, "Ambassador Goldberg requested the meeting as a courtesy call upon his appointment," and "During this meeting, Minister Park is expected to urge Ambassador Goldberg to contribute significantly to strengthening the global comprehensive strategic alliance between Korea and the U.S."
On the same day in the morning, Ambassador Goldberg visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building to submit a copy of his letter of credence. Ambassadors dispatched overseas submit a copy of the letter of credence, issued by their head of state, to the host country's government before commencing official activities.
After submitting the copy of his letter of credence, Ambassador Goldberg visited the Public Affairs and Cultural Center of the Embassy of Japan in Jongno-gu, where a domestic memorial altar for former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was set up, to pay his respects.
Ambassador Goldberg arrived in Korea on the 10th. Upon arrival, he stated, "As global partners and allies, we can work together to provide greater prosperity and security to the peoples of both countries," and added, "I look forward to meeting people from various walks of life."
Ambassador Goldberg is also scheduled to attend and speak at the Seoul Queer Culture Festival held at Seoul Plaza on the 16th. The U.S. Embassy in Korea has consistently set up booths and participated in the Queer Culture Festival as part of its diplomatic policy emphasizing the protection of LGBTQ+ rights.

Previous ambassadors, including Harry Harris, have also visited the festival site. Former Ambassador Mark Lippert has even taken the stage alongside representatives from other embassies to greet attendees.
