300 Intercity Buses, 12 City Buses
Vehicle Malfunction Alerts and Breakdown Risk Predictions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongnam Province is the first in the nation to promote the ‘Route Bus Safety and Carbon Reduction Integrated Control System Construction Project.’
On the 12th, Gyeongnam Province announced that it prepared the project to ensure the safety of route bus passengers and reduce carbon emissions, and that Gyeongnam was finally selected in a public contest project promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to discover resident-experienced projects based on living areas and to lay the foundation for ultra-wide cooperation activation.
This project, led by Gyeongnam Province, involves Busan City, Ulsan City, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. The total project cost is 1.56 billion KRW, with 780 million KRW from national funds and 780 million KRW from local funds.
The project targets 312 buses, including 300 intercity buses on the Gyeongnam-Busan-Ulsan (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) metropolitan routes operating in Gyeongnam, 6 city buses in Busan, and 6 city buses in Ulsan. Data collection terminals will be installed on each vehicle.
The province will collect operational data such as battery status, vehicle location information, and intake/exhaust system status through the terminals, and build a web-based integrated control system that allows real-time monitoring of the collected information. If a vehicle abnormality occurs, an alarm and vehicle failure risk prediction function will be implemented.
A provincial official said, “By building the system for the first time nationwide, we will proactively respond to the prevention of major accidents in the public transportation sector and reduce emissions through optimal management of vehicle emission reduction devices.” He added, “We plan to expand the project to all routes in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong area in the future.”
