In the past three years, a total of 19 deaths from coastal accidents have occurred in the jurisdiction, of which 17 people (90%) were reported not to have worn life jackets.
Most safety accidents along the coast occur due to personal carelessness and safety negligence, so raising awareness that wearing a life jacket is essential to reduce the risk of accidents is necessary.
Accordingly, Mokpo Maritime Police operates a free life jacket rental service at police substations in areas with high risks of coastal accidents and many experiential activities, such as water leisure, breakwater fishing, and water play, for citizens who wish to rent life jackets.
The life jacket rental service is available by visiting the Bukhang Police Substation and Yeonggwang Police Substation in the jurisdiction, where simple identity verification is required for application and rental.
