Hwasun-gun Conducts Aerial Pest Control for Chestnut Trees
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] On the night of the 12th, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) will conduct aerial spraying to address the aging of chestnut farmers and labor shortages, as well as to increase chestnut harvest yields.
According to the county on the 11th, chestnut tree pests such as peach twig borer and chestnut weevil mainly damage the nuts by eating the burrs or flesh, which deteriorates quality, so timely pest control is essential.
The county will carry out pest control from 15 to 20 meters above the 84.1 hectares of chestnut tree areas in Baek-a-myeon, Sapyeong-myeon, and Dong-myeon, using organic agricultural materials registered as pesticides that do not affect eco-friendly cultivation areas.
Prior to this, on the 8th, the county held a meeting at the Sapyeong-myeon Comprehensive Welfare Center with farmers who applied for aerial spraying to convey requests and cooperation matters regarding chestnut tree aerial pest control.
A county official said, "We hope that aerial spraying will enhance the effectiveness of pest control on chestnut trees and help increase income."
