In the early morning of the 11th (Korean time) at the Renaissance Golf Course in North Berwick, Scotland (par 70, 7,293 yards), Kim finished third (5-under 275) with a 3-under round on the final day of the Genesis Scottish Open (total prize money $8 million), co-hosted by the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) and the PGA Tour. This is his best individual PGA Tour result, surpassing his tied 15th place at the Puerto Rico Open last March.
This tournament served as a warm-up for the ‘oldest major,’ The Open, which will continue on the 14th at the Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland. Top-ranked players including No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) gathered, drawing the spotlight. Kim started tied for 9th, 5 shots behind, and collected 4 birdies (1 bogey). He made birdies on the 5th and 8th holes (both par 4s), and back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.
However, missing a 1.43m par putt on the final 18th hole (par 4) was a regret. He powered his game with a maximum drive of 353 yards, a fairway hit rate of 84.62%, and a greens in regulation rate of 83.33%. His scrambling ability (100%) to save par when missing the green was outstanding. Having perfectly adapted to the links course, Kim Joo-hyung will compete in The Open, aiming for his first career victory. Korea will be represented by six players including Im Sung-jae (24), Kim Si-woo (27), and Lee Kyoung-hoon (31).
