At the agreement ceremony held at POSCO, three company representatives attended: Kim Sang-baek, Head of Safety and Environment Department at POSCO Pohang Steelworks; Lee Ju-yong, Executive Director of Samsung C&T Construction Division; and Bang Je-il, CEO of Bangsan Co., Ltd.
Through this agreement, POSCO plans to develop technology to produce refractory coating materials by utilizing waste refractories together with Bangsan Co., Ltd., a refractory processing company, and Samsung C&T Construction Division.
Refractories are bricks used to protect the inner walls of blast furnaces or converters that hold molten iron at steelworks. Their most notable features are excellent refractoriness, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance, as they must contain molten iron at high temperatures.
At the ceremony, the three companies agreed to develop technology to recycle waste refractories into refractory coating materials for construction use and to promote production and commercialization.
POSCO, Bangsan, and Samsung C&T will act respectively as the supplier of waste refractories, processor, and user of refractory coating materials. POSCO will focus on waste refractory resource recycling technology, Bangsan on production technology for construction refractory coating materials, and Samsung C&T on commercialization technology development for construction refractory coating materials.
The three companies plan to establish and operate an operating committee as a mutual technical cooperation body to improve the quality and commercialization of refractory coating materials using waste refractories.
