Active Police Officer Booked for Assaulting Drunk Taxi Driver During Driving
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] An active-duty police officer who assaulted a taxi driver while driving under the influence was apprehended by the police.
On the 6th, the Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul booked Sergeant A, affiliated with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Mobile Unit, without detention on charges of assaulting a driver under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes on the 4th.
At around 10:50 PM on the 4th, Sergeant A was investigated for kicking the hand of a taxi driver driving a taxi near Sindap Station intersection in Dongdaemun-gu and hitting the driver's chin and shoulder. Sergeant A was intoxicated.
The assaulted taxi driver drove the vehicle directly to a nearby police box, reported Sergeant A's crime, and underwent an investigation. The taxi driver's injuries were reported to be minor. Additionally, the taxi driver and Sergeant A's side sought a settlement.
