[Box Office] Tom Cruise's 'Top Gun' Dominates 2nd Weekend with Massive Success

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The Tom Cruise-starring film "Top Gun: Maverick" has topped the box office for two consecutive weeks.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system, over the past weekend (June 1-3), "Top Gun: Maverick" attracted 1,145,257 viewers, securing the number one spot at the box office with a revenue share of 59.2%. Since its release on May 22, the film's cumulative audience has reached 3,329,121.
The film is an aviation action blockbuster that tells the story of the top pilot Maverick (Tom Cruise) returning as an instructor and the new team members who undertake life-threatening missions together. It achieved a rare box office success with an increase in weekend viewers in its second week compared to the first week.
Tom Cruise, the lead actor and producer, visited Korea ahead of the release to provide special fan service, which helped raise interest. Since then, the film has steadily attracted audiences through word of mouth.
In second place was "Decision to Leave" (director Park Chan-wook), winner of the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival, watched by 320,166 viewers. Released on May 29, the film has drawn a total of 508,091 viewers.
"The Witch: Part 2" (director Park Hoon-jung) ranked third with 213,106 viewers, while "The Outlaws 2" (director Lee Sang-yong) attracted 200,136 viewers, placing fourth. "The Outlaws 2," the first film this year to surpass 10 million viewers, has amassed a total of 12,416,799 viewers, surpassing "Masquerade" (2012) to become the 14th highest-grossing film in history.
Additionally, "Lightyear" ranked fifth, "Broker" sixth, and Joaquin Phoenix's "C'mon C'mon" entered the top ten at tenth place.

The total number of moviegoers last weekend was 1,974,345, of which approximately 1.14 million watched the number one film, "Top Gun: Maverick."
