[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Trade Network (KTNET) announced on the 30th that it held an opening ceremony for the 'Uzbek Public E-commerce Platform' in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. KTNET is a subsidiary of the Korea International Trade Association.
The opening ceremony was attended by over 50 people, including Aziz Boytov, First Deputy Minister of the Uzbek Ministry of Investment and Trade, Heesang Kim, Korean Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Younghwan Cha, CEO of KTNET, and Cheongyo Park, Head of the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology.
The project has been promoted in accordance with the 'Cooperation Agreement for the Establishment of the Uzbek National Electronic Trade Platform' signed in November 2017 between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea and the Uzbek Ministry of Investment and Trade, attended by the heads of state of Korea and Uzbekistan. The main content is to establish an e-commerce platform where Uzbek companies can discover overseas trading partners, conclude contracts, make payments, and handle logistics and delivery, as well as to train operating personnel.
KTNET has been supporting Uzbekistan since 2009. It began by signing a cooperation agreement on electronic trade with the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and from 2016 to 2019, it built an information system to digitalize the national standard administrative management of the Uzbek Agency for Standardization. Earlier this year, KTNET won a follow-up project for the post-management of the Uzbek national standard administrative management system and is currently carrying it out.
In 2019, KTNET secured a project worth approximately 6.2 billion KRW and built the infrastructure including platform development until last year, preparing for the opening. As a result, as of the end of last month, the platform has secured information on about 3,000 Uzbek export companies and about 10,000 overseas buyers. With this opening, it is expected to become easier for Uzbek export companies to discover overseas export channels. Payment and cargo delivery can also be conveniently handled electronically.
