Chinese Ambassador to Korea: "NATO Must Stop Provocative Actions Against China"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Xing Haiming, the Chinese Ambassador to Korea, commented on NATO's adoption of a strategic concept to contain China at its summit, stating, "NATO should stop provocative words and actions against China."
On the 30th, at the '30th Anniversary of Korea-China Diplomatic Relations and the Future of Korea-China Relations International Academic Conference' hosted by the Korean Political Science Association and others at Korea University, Ambassador Xing said, "NATO is advised to stop spreading false information and provocative behavior against China and not to pollute Asia and the world."
Ambassador Xing stated, "The NATO summit described China as a systemic challenge, which we firmly oppose."
He criticized, "NATO is a product of the Cold War. It has created imaginary enemies to foster bloc confrontation and has adhered to Cold War thinking. Although it claims to be a defensive organization, it has clear offensive expansion tendencies and has participated in several wars, but its performance has not been good."
Ambassador Xing referred to the 1999 incident when NATO forces bombed the Chinese embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. He asserted, "They have not yet repaid that debt. It is unforgettable."
He also criticized the United States. Ambassador Xing raised his voice, saying, "The US policy toward China is full of paranoia. It seems to believe that all Chinese investments have political purposes, all Chinese students are spies, and all cooperation proposals have some ulterior motives."
He added, "The US is comprehensively suppressing and exaggerating China while interfering in its internal affairs, tarnishing China's domestic and foreign policies."
Ambassador Xing said that the Korean government should act as a lubricant between the US and China. He said, "We sincerely hope that Korea, as a neighbor maintaining friendly relations with China, understands and supports China's position," and added, "China has no intention to challenge or harm anyone."
He further stated, "China's development goal is to improve the well-being of the Chinese people and to build cooperative and mutually beneficial relationships with other countries," and added, "We will mobilize all necessary means to protect our national interests."
