[Golf Topic] 9/11 Terror Victims' Families "Protest Against LIV Golf Hosting in the US"
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…In 2001, the families of victims of the 9/11 terror attacks voiced opposition to LIV Golf.
On the 30th (Korean time), the Associated Press reported, "Survivors and families of victims of the 9/11 terror attacks will hold protests near the LIV Invitational Series tournament venue opening in Portland, Oregon, USA." LIV Golf, sponsored by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund, held its opening event earlier this month near London, England, and will hold its second tournament in Portland for three days starting tonight. This is the first LIV Golf Invitational Series event held in the United States.
The 9/11 survivors and victims' families urged American players earlier this month not to participate in the LIV tournament. This is because many of the hijackers during the 9/11 terror attacks were Saudi nationals, and the Saudi government is believed to be behind the 2018 murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Washington Post journalist critical of the Saudi regime. They claim that the golf tournament was created to whitewash the image of Saudi Arabia after committing acts of terror against the United States.

Phil Mickelson is estimated to have received a contract worth 100 million dollars (130 billion won). The LIV Golf Invitational Series will hold four more tournaments in the U.S. in July in New Jersey, September in Boston and Chicago, and October in Miami.
