[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yangcheon-gu held a farewell ceremony for Mayor Kim Soo-young on the 29th at 3 p.m. in Haenuri Hall, Haenuri Town.
Mayor Kim, who served as the elected mayor of Yangcheon-gu during the 6th and 7th terms, overcame administrative confusion caused by frequent administrative gaps and led the district government steadily for the past eight years with "on-the-ground leadership" and the warm and delicate "heart of a mother mayor."
In particular, Mayor Kim is the first mayor in the history of Yangcheon-gu to be re-elected, and his smooth completion of the term without any administrative gaps is evaluated as a driving force for stable power transition.
Major projects such as the launch of the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation, redevelopment of the Mokdong central axis park and Anyangcheon, the Central Library, Health Healing Culture Center, Sinwol 6-dong Administrative Complex Town, Galsan Culture and Arts Center, Mokdong Kkaebi Market Sharing Center, and the Lifelong Learning Center and Smart Creative Talent Center were successfully completed without major issues, which is also attributed to Mayor Kim's leadership.
Despite the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, Mayor Kim led the way in overcoming the crisis through innovative administrative changes such as the nation's first Good Consumption Campaign spreading positive influence in the local community, the Youth Digital Supporters project, and visiting cultural performances.
Based on Mayor Kim's crisis management capabilities and stable district administration, Yangcheon-gu has accumulated various awards, including the Ministry of Environment Green City Presidential Award (2020), first place in the nationwide basic local government ESG evaluation (2021), and first place in nationwide local government administrative services (2022), establishing itself as a leading local government in South Korea.
The farewell ceremony held on the 29th was an occasion to reflect on the achievements and efforts made together by Mayor Kim, all employees, and residents, proceeding with a video screening reconstructing eight years of memories and footprints, a farewell speech, presentation of a commemorative plaque, and commemorative photo session.
Mayor Kim expressed his reflections on the time spent walking with 460,000 residents and conveyed his gratitude to the staff and residents through his farewell speech.
