Hyundai Motor Wage Negotiations Stalled... Strike Vote Scheduled for the 1st of Next Month
Union Holds Temporary Delegate Meeting and Resolves to Initiate Strike
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai Motor) labor union announced on the 28th that it has resolved to initiate a dispute (strike). On the same day, the union held an extraordinary delegates' meeting at the Hyundai Motor Cultural Center in Buk-gu, Ulsan, and passed the resolution to initiate the dispute unanimously.
The union plans to conduct a strike vote among all union members on the 1st of next month.
Earlier, on the 22nd, the union declared the breakdown of negotiations and the following day applied for dispute mediation at the Central Labor Relations Commission. The commission judged that the gap between labor and management positions was significant and decided to suspend mediation. If the dispute resolution is approved in the union members' vote, the union will obtain the right to strike.
