[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the ‘Living in Seokgok Pig Reborn 1973 (hereinafter ‘Seokgok1973’)’ project will enter full-scale operation starting this second half of the year.
Seokgok1973 is an urban regeneration New Deal project selected in 2020 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
It is currently being promoted with the goal of ‘making life happier in Seokgok’ until 2024.
The core content is to improve the residential and living environment in Seokgok-myeon and to carry out various projects to increase the income of local residents by utilizing the local specialty, black pork.
Notably, the project includes establishing the Dolsil Eoullim Center to create a foundation where the local community can thrive.
Also, through the Seokgok-myeon Urban Regeneration Field Support Center, resident education programs are operated and various facilities are established.
Before the full-scale project launch, Gokseong-gun underwent a preparation period over the past year, including resident capacity-building education.
At the Seokgok-myeon Urban Regeneration University, conducted as a resident education program, basic theoretical courses necessary for village cultivation were provided, and the representative brand and logo of Seokgok-myeon were created, laying the groundwork for the urban regeneration project.
Efforts were also made to turn the region’s history and stories into cultural resources.
First, a project to archive photos, documents, and writings depicting the old appearance of Seokgok, collected together with residents, is continuously underway.
The urban regeneration project newsletter ‘Bangbang Seokgok’ has also published its second issue.
‘Bangbang Seokgok’ provides information about the appearance of Seokgok-myeon and various programs conducted under the urban regeneration project.
It contains diverse content such as ‘Seokgok Sodam,’ where village activists from the Seokgok-myeon Urban Field Support Center directly record residents’ stories.
This second half of the year, Gokseong-gun plans to carry out software projects including black pork commercialization and revitalization services, the second term of the Urban Regeneration University, and resident education projects.
As facility projects, construction of the new Dolsil Eoullim Center, which will serve as a hub facility for the urban regeneration project providing youth leisure space and resident education space, is progressing as planned.
Renovation of the old public restroom in the Seokgok 5-day Market, maintenance of the village hall, improvement of the pedestrian environment on Seokgok-ro in the Seokgok-myeon urban area, and undergrounding of power lines are also steadily progressing.
In particular, the house repair support project, which has been highly anticipated by residents, will begin construction in July.
Over the past year, through resident recruitment and detailed design services, 32 households have been selected.
An official from the Urban Economy Division of Gokseong-gun said, “We are promoting the project in close cooperation with the Seokgok-myeon Urban Regeneration Council and Seokgok-myeon. We will do our best to improve the quality of life of Seokgok-myeon residents, increase residents’ income, and expand living infrastructure.”
