[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk Province, has issued a construction halt order for the lead waste recycling factory under construction in the Jeokseo-dong general industrial area.
Yeongju City announced that it has reported the company representative and the construction company to investigative authorities for violating related regulations such as the Building Act and ordered the suspension of construction starting from the 23rd.
According to Yeongju City, the company is building a lead waste processing factory in Jeokseo-dong after receiving proper notification of the waste disposal business plan and building permits. However, it failed to properly comply with related regulations such as violating the factory establishment approval application procedure and failing to report the installation of structures (chimney).
The city reported the failure to comply with the factory establishment approval application procedure before the start of construction and the failure to report the installation of structures to investigative authorities according to relevant laws, issued a construction suspension order, and rejected all factory establishment approval application documents.
Additionally, regarding concerns about environmental pollution from lead waste recycling, the city requested two specialized institutions to reassess the stability of pollutant emission facilities to determine the suitability of pollution prevention facilities in the waste disposal business plan submitted by the operator.
A city official stated, “Since administrative procedures such as factory establishment approval, final waste recycling permission, building use approval, and factory registration remain, we plan to proceed by thoroughly reviewing environmental standards and related laws concerning the concerns raised by citizens and environmental groups.”
