"Honor Bloomed in the Heart, Medals" is the first special exhibition of the year at the Park Tae-joon Memorial Hall, planned to revisit the footsteps of the late Honorary Chairman Park Tae-joon through the medals he received.
The exhibition will be held for three months from the 24th until September 25th, operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Mondays, when the memorial hall is closed.
The medals on display include 14 types from both domestic and international origins. Among the first-class medals received in Korea are the ▲Order of Mugunghwa (National Order of Civil Merit), ▲Order of National Unification, and ▲Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit. Also featured are medals awarded for participation in the Korean War, such as the ▲Order of Chungmu for Military Merit and ▲Order of Hwarang for Military Merit.
Seven rare medals from abroad will also be introduced, including ▲the Bessemer Gold Medal from the United Kingdom, ▲the Legion of Honor from France, ▲the Order of Merit Cross from Germany, and ▲the Order of the Southern Cross Grand Cross from Brazil.
In particular, the Bessemer Gold Medal, known as the Nobel Prize of the steel industry, is said to have been the most meaningful award to the late Honorary Chairman Park Tae-joon during his lifetime.
The Park Tae-joon Memorial Hall project officially began in 2015 when Park Seong-bin, the representative of the bereaved family, donated the site free of charge to honor his late father's wish to communicate with future generations.
The memorial hall was constructed with approximately 8.2 billion KRW of county funds on a 5,216㎡ site along Imrang Coastal Road in Jangan-eup, next to the birthplace of the late Honorary Chairman Park Tae-joon. The facility, with a total floor area of 952㎡, includes the memorial hall and a garden, and officially opened last December.
