Yoon Byeong-tae, Mayor-elect of Naju, Engages in Extensive Communication to Fulfill Promises of the 8th Local Government Term
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yukbong] Yoon Byung-tae, the mayor-elect of Naju, is actively engaging in extensive communication efforts, holding successive meetings with various figures including the governor-elect of Jeollanam-do and the superintendent-elect of the provincial education office, to realize the vision of a "200,000-population global small but strong city" after the inauguration of the transition committee.
The Transition Committee for the 8th Term of Naju Major Transformation announced on the 20th that Mayor-elect Yoon met with Kim Young-rok, governor of Jeollanam-do, Kim Dae-jung, superintendent-elect of Jeollanam-do Office of Education, Jung Seung-il, president of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and Lee Geon-cheol, CEO of Jeonnam Tourism Foundation, to discuss plans for the development of Naju and the revitalization of education, energy industry, and tourism sectors.
Recently, Mayor-elect Yoon met with Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeollanam-do and requested active interest and budget support for the promotion of current projects.
The two, who had established a relationship during the 7th term while serving respectively as governor of Jeollanam-do and deputy mayor for political affairs, formed a broad consensus on major local issues in Naju such as improving residential conditions in the innovation city, the SRF combined heat and power plant issue, and attracting national large-scale research facilities, agreeing to actively cooperate in finding solutions.
With Superintendent-elect Kim Dae-jung, they focused on key pledges such as the establishment of new elementary and middle schools and plans to attract prestigious high schools to alleviate student overcrowding in the innovation city.
Mayor-elect Yoon then visited KEPCO and discussed with President Jung Seung-il securing continuous government support for Korea Energy Engineering University, as well as regulatory innovation in the energy sector and focused development of new energy industries by actively utilizing energy new industry research infrastructure such as the KENTECH Energy New Technology Research Institute.
At the meeting with Lee Geon-cheol, CEO of Jeonnam Tourism Foundation, they brainstormed ways to revitalize cultural tourism linking the old downtown area and the Yeongsan River.
Mayor-elect Yoon explained the regional tourism landmark strategy centered on the creation of the Yeongsan River National Garden and proposed to CEO Lee that the starting point of the Jeonnam area bus tour “Namdo Hanbakkwi” be set in Naju.
A transition committee official said, “This reflects Mayor-elect Yoon’s determination to meet with figures in fields related to his pledges before taking office and to reflect the discussions as much as possible in city administration,” adding, “We will do our best to establish the vision strategy of a 200,000-population global small but strong city based on Mayor-elect Yoon’s values and philosophy and to finalize detailed pledge projects.”
