Gwangju Buk-gu, Promoting Anti-Corruption to Create an Honest Public Service Society
Comprehensive Anti-Corruption and Integrity Measures in 4 Areas, 32 Tasks
Strengthening Anti-Corruption and Integrity Capabilities, Efforts to Create a Transparent Public Service Society
[Asia Economy] Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced that it held the ‘2022 Anti-Corruption Promotion Measures Midterm Report Meeting’ on the 20th to spread a trustworthy public service culture among its residents.
The report meeting was attended by Buk-gu Mayor Moon In, senior officials, and the Integrity Promotion Team composed of employees from 17 departments, who shared the 2022 comprehensive integrity evaluation plan and the current status of the district’s integrity along with anti-corruption promotion efforts.
This year, Buk-gu is implementing a ‘Comprehensive Plan for Anti-Corruption and Integrity Improvement’ consisting of 18 tasks across four areas: establishing an integrity policy promotion system, revitalizing anti-corruption systems, strengthening public officials’ integrity education, and spreading an integrity culture in daily life.
To build an anti-corruption infrastructure, since February, Buk-gu has been operating the Integrity Promotion Team to discover and implement effective integrity policies by department, and plans to enact the ‘Ordinance to Support Integrity Improvement.’
They conduct integrity satisfaction surveys targeting civil petitioners, operate an ‘Integrity Field Investigation Team’ that visits dissatisfied petitioners for consultation and identifies causes, thereby enhancing the perception of integrity.
Through cooperation with residents and experts such as citizen auditors and the Citizen Grievance Committee, Buk-gu is strengthening monitoring and supervision of various corrupt practices.
In particular, efforts are being made to cultivate proper integrity awareness in daily life and create a transparent public service society through senior officials’ integrity special lectures, integrity education for staff in corruption-prone areas, practical training on proper budget execution and contract accounting, and Integrity Week.
Mayor Moon said, “Integrity is a fundamental virtue that public officials must never forget,” adding, “We will strive to become a Buk-gu trusted by residents through improving work methods and implementing strong anti-corruption and integrity measures.”
