Gwangju University Achieves Runner-Up in Team Event at Power Taekwondo Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Dongjin) announced on the 20th that it won the runner-up in the team event by competing on equal terms with professional teams at the Power Taekwondo competition.
The Gwangju University second-year players Ko Younghoon, Kim Myungseong, Park Seongbin, and Lee Sayoung, who participated in the finals of this competition, narrowly lost 2-1 in set score in the team event final against Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall held on the 18th at the Muju Taekwondowon T1 Stadium during the ‘2022 KTA Power Taekwondo Championship Season 1’.
The Gwangju University players will participate in the final competition held at Olympic Park from the 26th to 27th of next month, challenging once again for the national team final competition ticket and the prize money of 10 million won.
Meanwhile, Ahn Jiwon (3rd year), who competed in the individual -65kg category, also achieved a great success by ranking third and advancing to the final competition.
Kang Kyungdo, the head coach of the Gwangju University Taekwondo team, said, “Following last year, we demonstrated that we are the strongest university by showing a splendid match against professional teams,” and added, “We will devote ourselves to physical strength, technique, and mental training with the players to achieve good results in the final competition.”

Meanwhile, the Power Taekwondo competition has recently gained popularity by departing from the existing point-based Taekwondo matches. It uses equally assigned ‘Power (Energy) Bars’ that decrease according to the impact amount of attacks, and the team that first depletes the opponent’s ‘Power (Energy) Bar’ wins.
