National Library of Korea Releases Cultural Heritage-Level Rare Ancient Books... 41m Giant Scroll Included
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] The National Library of Korea has purchased and made public 54 rare cultural heritage-level ancient documents, including the unique copies of 'Gyeongyeon Ilgi' and 'Samwon Chamchan Yeonsuseo.'
'Gyeongyeon Ilgi' is an ancient document compiled by Joseon Dynasty scholar Joseongyo (趙性敎), who served as the Chief Scholar in the late Joseon period, recording academic discussions between the king and his officials. It measures an impressive 41 meters in length. It holds high historical value as it contains details about the operation and content of Gyeongyeon sessions during the late Joseon period.
'Samwon Chamchan Yeonsuseo' was written in 1291 by Yi Bungbi (李鵬飛) of the Yuan Dynasty. It is a precious copy included among the 30 major Taoist classics and is the only edition printed from woodblocks in Jeonju in 1438.
In addition, the National Library has secured many other rare ancient documents, such as 'Yeowon Buwongun Songjil Geumsacheop,' a gold-written manuscript by Songjil (宋?), who served as Chief State Councillor in the early Joseon period in 1516; the Buddhist scripture 'Suneung Eomgyeong Uihae,' published by the Ganggyeong Dogam in 1462; 'Palcheon-gun Jeong Gi-gwang Ilgi,' a diary of official life by Jeong Gi-gwang (鄭基廣), who served as Deputy Minister of the Right in mid-Joseon; and 'Paju Yeomssi Jokbo,' the first genealogical record created by the Paju Yeom clan in 1706.
