Yeosu Coast Guard Implements Caller ID Display Service for Mobile Phones
Preventing Crimes Such as Public Institution Impersonation Voice Phishing Through Caller ID Display
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] The Jeonnam Yeosu Maritime Police Station announced that “starting from the 20th, it will implement a mobile phone caller ID display service that shows caller information when civil petitioners answer calls from the maritime police station on their personal mobile phones.”
According to Yeosu Maritime Police, previously when calls were made to civil petitioners from a shared phone, only the phone number was displayed, making it impossible to obtain caller information. This sometimes led to misunderstandings such as spam or voice phishing. Therefore, the service will display the caller’s department name along with the phone number on the recipient’s mobile phone screen.
This caller ID display service allows civil petitioners to know where the call is coming from, and the responsible departments can provide information to the petitioners, thereby enhancing trust. It is expected to improve call connection rates and facilitate smooth communication.
As phone financial fraud crimes such as voice phishing and spam calls increase, the maritime police plan to prioritize operating this service in 39 departments with heavy public service duties, including the civil petition office, investigation division, and police substations, and then expand it further to alleviate civil petitioners’ anxiety.
A Yeosu Maritime Police official said, “Through the caller ID display service, we have been able to prevent voice phishing crimes impersonating public institutions and improve trust in the institution,” adding, “We will continue to strive to enhance citizen-friendly administrative services.”
