International Air Transport Association General Assembly in Qatar... Cho Won-tae 'Attends'
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting is being held in Doha, Qatar.
According to the aviation industry on the 19th, the 78th IATA Annual General Meeting and the World Air Transport Summit (WATS) will be held in Doha for three days from the 19th to the 21st, with representatives from airlines and aircraft manufacturers attending.
Cho Won-tae, Chairman of Korean Air and a member of the IATA Board of Directors, will attend the Annual General Meeting this year as well as last year. Chairman Cho will hold meetings with members of the airline alliance 'SkyTeam' in Doha. He is also expected to have discussions with Boeing, Airbus, and others regarding aircraft procurement.
At this Annual General Meeting and Summit, IATA will discuss lessons learned from the COVID-19 crisis and the external impacts currently affecting the aviation industry. They plan to derive the best possible solutions.
Following last year, IATA intends to urge the introduction of eco-friendly aircraft to reduce carbon emissions and to reduce plastic usage. At last year's Annual General Meeting held in Boston, USA, IATA resolved to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the aviation industry by 2050. Willie Walsh, IATA Director General, emphasized at the time that "although it is a difficult challenge for the aviation industry, it is an essential measure for future generations."
The most realistic alternative for reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry is considered to be Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF is aviation fuel made from eco-friendly raw materials such as animal and vegetable oils and urban waste gas, rather than traditional fossil resources like petroleum and coal.
