"Now Is the Era of Alternative Seafood" Ottogi Launches 'Untuna Plant-Based Basil Tuna'
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Ottogi announced on the 17th that it has launched ‘Untuna (UNTUNA) Plant-Based Basil Tuna,’ made from plant-based soy protein.
The new product was created through collaboration between Ottogi’s in-house startup ‘UNFISK109,’ Ottogi, and Ottogi SF. It features 100% plant-based ingredients by processing soy protein and replacing oil with canola oil, completely avoiding animal-derived ingredients while faithfully replicating the taste and texture of tuna.
Compared to conventional canned tuna products, it reduces calories by 50% and sodium content by about 10%, allowing consumers to enjoy it without worry. It is also released in a canned form with a long shelf life, making it easy to store and carry. The mild and savory flavor combined with basil aroma pairs well with various dishes such as canap?s, sandwiches, salads, and gimbap.
The newly introduced Untuna Plant-Based Basil Tuna will be first unveiled on the crowdfunding platform ‘Tumblbug’ on the 21st. The funding will run until the 16th of next month. During this period, bundle products including ‘Ottogi Light Soy Mayo,’ a mayonnaise made without animal-derived ingredients, can be purchased at a discount of up to 41%. After the funding ends, the product will be available through various online channels such as Ottogi Mall and Naver Smart Store.
