Interpark "Sharp Increase in International Flight Bookings After Entry Quarantine Measures Lifted"
Phu Quoc 332%, Nha Trang 169%, Overwhelming Demand in Southeast Asia
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] With the quarantine mandate for overseas arrivals and flight restrictions at Incheon International Airport lifted on the 8th, overseas flight bookings through travel agencies have surged.
According to Interpark's comparison of overseas flight booking trends from June 8 to 13, the number of bookings increased by 35% compared to the same period last week.
This is interpreted as an increase in demand for overseas travel following the normalization of international flights after 24 months and the exemption from quarantine requirements for arrivals starting on the 8th.
During the same period, booking rates by overseas cities were as follows: Phu Quoc (332%), Nha Trang (169%), Da Nang (67%), Hanoi (64%), Kota Kinabalu (57%). In particular, demand for Southeast Asia, including Vietnam and Malaysia, was overwhelmingly high.
The popularity of Southeast Asia, where demand surged, is attributed to factors such as low prices, short flight times, and the ability to enjoy both sightseeing and relaxation. Until before COVID-19, Southeast Asia was a consistently popular destination for honeymoons, golf trips, and vacations.
Additionally, Japan, where package tours have recently resumed, saw a 47% increase in Narita bookings during the same period. Japan is a popular destination with 7 million annual visitors, and travel demand is expected to increase further once independent travel resumes.
