Suncheon-si, Quick Steps to Secure Next Year's National Budget
Deputy Mayor Son Jeom-sik Visits Ministry of Strategy and Finance and Other Central Government Agencies to Request National Treasury Funds
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do announced that on the 16th, it visited the Budget Office of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance to actively request the inclusion of next year's priority projects in the government budget.
Son Jeom-sik, Vice Mayor of Suncheon City, met with Im Gi-geun, Economic Budget Review Officer, and others to directly explain the city's major priority projects for next year, including the Green Startup Town Development Project, and requested active interest and budget inclusion.
The main priority projects proposed that day include the Jeonnam Green Startup Town Development Project (KRW 30 billion), Sewer Pipeline Maintenance Project (Soan Village, Jorye Village, Hwangjeon·Woldeung totaling KRW 18.6 billion), and the Construction of a Bio-Conversion Bio Specialized Knowledge Industry Center (KRW 32 billion).
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance agreed that the city's major priority projects are "essential projects for the success of the 2023 Garden Expo and regional development," and stated that they will continue to pay attention and actively work to include the budget.
Vice Mayor Son said, "Securing national funds is absolutely necessary due to the city's poor financial structure to ensure the smooth progress of priority projects," adding, "We will frequently visit Jeonnam Province, central government departments, and the National Assembly to build consensus and do our best until the end to secure national budget for next year's priority projects."
Meanwhile, Suncheon City has secured KRW 103.7 billion in national funds through 32 projects, including KRW 97 billion for the pilot project to install an integrated biogas facility for organic waste through national fund competitions.
On the 9th, the city explained priority projects at the office of local assemblyman So Byeong-cheol and requested active support from the National Assembly.

Assemblyman So said, "For the development of the region, let's roll up our sleeves and secure the budget together with the city."
Additionally, to secure national funds, the city produced a national fund acquisition activity manual covering government and National Assembly budget review responses, methods for developing persuasive arguments, and pre-implementation procedures, and is conducting training for all employees to enhance their understanding of securing national funds.
The government budget review by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance will be completed by the end of August, followed by reviews by each standing committee of the National Assembly, the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, and plenary sessions from September, with final approval scheduled for December.
