Paper Industry, Awards Ceremony for Contributors Commemorating the 6th Paper Day

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] The Korea Paper Association held an award ceremony on the 16th to present commendations from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to individuals who have contributed to the development of the paper industry from both industry and academia, in celebration of Paper Day. An association official explained that considering the social atmosphere and the COVID-19 situation, this year they conducted awards for contributors and various online-centered events without holding separate in-person gatherings.
Ahn Jaeho, president of the Paper Association, stated, "Our paper industry is gaining more attention in line with the transition to an eco-friendly society," adding, "The role of paper, the number one eco-friendly material among everyday and industrial materials, will grow even more. Let us all work together to enhance the value of paper."
This year's recipients of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Minister's Award include Kim Taehyung, Executive Director of Korea Paper Co., Ltd.; Moon Jongsik, CEO of Shinpung Resources Co., Ltd.; Lee Yongkyu, professor at Kangwon National University; Park Jeongsun, CEO of Shinhyundai Co., Ltd.; Kim Inwoong, CEO of Samyang Paperboard Co., Ltd.; Kim Namho, manager at Jeonju Paper Co., Ltd.; Seo Wonwoo, deputy general manager at Paper Korea Co., Ltd.; Seol Jongwoo, CEO of Songlim Recycling Co., Ltd.; and Ha Junsik, CEO of Namgang Paper Co., Ltd., totaling nine individuals. Choi Wooseok, Director of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Materials Convergence Industry Policy Officer), presented the commendations and encouraged the awardees.
Meanwhile, the Paper Association held various online events in celebration of Paper Day, including a contest for alternative terms for 'waste paper,' a quiz event titled "The Truth About Paper," a V-log contest ("This is Why I Like Paper!"), and a paper character contest, all of which received positive responses.

The Paper Association, along with eight related upstream and downstream industry organizations (Seoul Gyeongin Paper Wholesale Cooperative, Korea Corrugated Packaging Industry Cooperative, Korea Box Industry Cooperative, Korea Paper Industry Cooperative, Korea Paper Raw Material Recycling Cooperative, Korea Paperboard Industry Cooperative, Korea Pulp and Paper Society), established June 16, 1902?the date when machine-made paper was first mass-produced?as 'Paper Day' and holds commemorative ceremonies annually.
