Hanwha Construction - US Mohican Group "Northeast Asia's Largest 'Inspire' Complex Resort to Open in 2023"
Hanwha Engineering & Construction announced on the 16th that it held a meeting in South Korea with 'Mohegan,' the largest integrated resort and entertainment group on the U.S. East Coast, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the integrated resort business.
The meeting, held the previous day at the 63 Building in Yeouido, was attended by Hanwha E&C Vice Chairman Choi Kwang-ho, Head of the Architecture Business Division Yoon Yong-sang, Planning Director Kang Tae-gu, as well as Mohegan Chairman James Gessner and CEO Ray Pinnelt. The attendees reviewed the progress of the first phase of the Inspire Integrated Resort construction project and exchanged opinions on preparations for the 2023 opening and strategies to attract overseas tourists.
Mohegan, which visited this time, is the largest integrated resort development and operation group on the U.S. East Coast, operating nine integrated resorts including the Mohegan Sun Resort in Connecticut, as well as locations in Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, New Jersey, Washington, and Pennsylvania. Aiming to develop a global premium integrated resort, Mohegan is currently promoting the Inspire project in South Korea.
The Inspire Integrated Entertainment Resort is a project to develop the largest integrated resort in Northeast Asia on approximately 4.3 million square meters of land in the third international business district west of Terminal 2 at Incheon Airport, in four phases. Hanwha E&C is solely responsible for the first phase construction, with a project cost of about 1.8 trillion KRW, and the construction is progressing smoothly with the goal of opening in 2023. The current progress rate is about 20%, with most of the underground work completed and the main structures and curtain wall exterior finishing materials under production.
Through the first phase, three 5-star hotel buildings with a total of 1,275 rooms will be constructed, along with a multi-purpose arena (performance hall) with a capacity of 15,000 seats and a convention facility featuring a banquet hall with about 2,000 seats. Additionally, an indoor water park usable year-round, a casino exclusively for foreigners, and a shopping arcade will be established, expected to become an international landmark leading the tourism and leisure industry in the post-COVID era. Utilizing the arena and convention facilities, performances and events by global artists including K-pop stars will be hosted to attract domestic and international tourists.
