Gyeonggi-do Conducts Full Survey of High-Amount Tax Delinquents with Sales to Collect 2 Billion KRW in Arrears
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province conducted a thorough investigation of individual business establishments owned by high-amount tax delinquents and collected 2 billion KRW in unpaid taxes from 1,195 business owners who evaded tax payments despite having sales.
From April to May, the province, in cooperation with 31 cities and counties, sent search notices to 7,686 individuals (with unpaid taxes totaling approximately 42.1 billion KRW) who had operated individual businesses within the last three years (2019?2021) and owed local taxes of 1 million KRW or more, encouraging them to pay. As a result, 1,195 people paid a total of 2 billion KRW in unpaid taxes (including installment payments).
For example, construction businessman Mr. A, who owed 98 million KRW in local income tax and other taxes, had postponed payment citing lack of funds but paid the full amount after receiving the business establishment search notice from the province. Environmental businessman Mr. B, who was classified as a "no-asset deferral case" and had not paid 15 million KRW in local income tax and other taxes due to lack of assets, also paid the full amount after receiving the search notice.
The province plans to conduct searches of business establishments for the remaining 6,491 delinquents in cooperation with all 31 cities and counties, and if it is determined that they have the ability to pay, collect the unpaid taxes through seizure of movable property and other measures.
