[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol stated on the 14th regarding preemptive measures on inflation, "We are trying to take all possible actions that the government can take on the supply side."
President Yoon made this remark around 8:53 a.m. while heading to the Yongsan Presidential Office and responding to reporters' questions about preemptive inflation measures, saying, "Inflation factors are coming from the supply side."
At the weekly meeting held the previous day with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo at the Yongsan Presidential Office, President Yoon reviewed the recent economic situation and decided to pursue multifaceted measures to stabilize prices in order to minimize the burden on the public.
At the Chief Secretary meeting presided over by the President, he listed that consumer prices rose by 8.6% in the United States, 9.2% in OECD countries, and 5.4% in Korea compared to the same period last year, stating, "When prices rise, real wages fall. Find ways to alleviate the difficulties of ordinary people through preemptive measures."
Regarding the appointment of Kim Chang-gi as Commissioner of the National Tax Service without a parliamentary confirmation hearing the previous day, he said, "Well, we can't just wait indefinitely," adding, "Other Cabinet members are trying to wait calmly until the National Assembly is normalized and the parliamentary organization is formed, but we could not leave tax administration unattended, so the appointment was unavoidable."
On whether to push forward with the appointments of Park Soon-ae, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education nominee, and Kim Seung-hee, Minister of Health and Welfare nominee, he said, "It is difficult to answer hypothetically," but also mentioned, "We will try to wait for a considerable time first."
When asked if there are plans to hold confirmation hearings for verification procedures after the parliamentary organization is formed, he replied, "Let's see after the parliamentary organization is formed."
