Seongdong District Office Creates 'Integrity Staircase'
Integrity phrases engraved on office building health stairs to naturally spread integrity culture, with events boosting participation and interest of all employees
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) has created a ‘Integrity Staircase’ in the Seongdong-gu government building so that all employees can pledge to practice integrity in their daily lives.
The ‘Integrity Staircase’ was established by utilizing the existing health stairs in the government building, which encourage stair climbing. Integrity phrases were inscribed on four walls of the stairs spanning two floors frequently used by residents and employees.
The phrases, such as ‘Integrity! Seongdong-gu’s Promise,’ ‘Your Value Begins with Integrity,’ ‘An Honest Today, A Proud Tomorrow,’ and ‘Keep Corruption at a Distance, Bring Integrity Closer,’ were vividly expressed in various colors so that all employees can naturally read them while going up and down the stairs.
Additionally, on the 10th, a commemorative event was held where employees could participate together. Employees who accurately wrote down two or more of the integrity phrases inscribed on the walls and submitted them were entered into a drawing to receive small prizes, encouraging integrity among employees and increasing use and interest in the Integrity Staircase.
Seongdong-gu was the first local government in the nation to obtain the Anti-Corruption Management System (ISO 37001) certification in 2019 and has maintained the certification by passing related follow-up audits every year through voluntary control and corruption prevention, achieving certification renewal last month.
The newly created ‘Integrity Staircase’ reflects Seongdong-gu’s systematic and transparent administrative system operation and was established with a strong commitment to integrity so that all employees can recognize integrity as the top priority in public service through concrete practice.
An employee from the Communication Office, Mr. 00, said, “Employees sometimes walk up the stairs without much thought, but seeing the word ‘integrity’ naturally makes them think about it once more.”
